Western University, Canada National Indigenous Scholarship Program 2024

The National Indigenous Scholarship Program is awarded annually to five incoming Indigenous undergraduate students (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) studying full-time at Western’s main campus based on their outstanding academic excellence. The National Indigenous Scholarship also recognizes the candidate’s academic achievements, creative and innovative thinking, and previous or intended contributions to Indigenous communities (on and off reserve as well as urban settings)

Aim and Benefits of Western University, Canada National Indigenous Scholarship Program

5 awards at $50,000 each to Indigenous students applying from Canadian high schools or applying from a postsecondary institution.


Requirements for Western University, Canada National Indigenous Scholarship Program Qualification

For high school applicants. You are required to enter the name and email address of your reference (i.e. Principal, head of school, or designate such as a guidance counselor/officer, teacher, community leader, elder, or mentor).  Your school administrator will be sent an email (once you click on the "send email" button) with your request for a reference. Instructions to your school administrator on how to provide the reference and transcript will be included in the email.

For college transfer applicants. You are required to enter the name and email address of your reference (i.e. Professor, education counselor, professional reference, community leader, elder, or mentor). Your reference will be sent an email (once you click on the “send email” button) with your request for a reference. Instructions to your reference on how to provide the reference transcript will be included in the email.



Documents Required for Application

The following is the checklist for a complete National Indigenous Scholarship Application:

  • On-line National Indigenous Scholarship Application
  • Verification of Indigenous Identity (Indian Status, Metis Citizenship, Inuit Trust card, a letter from band or community representative, or an affidavit)
  • Reference Letter (from school, teacher, community leader, elder, or mentor)
  • Essay
