The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships support academically superior graduate students who are receiving training and conducting research in areas that are strategically important to Alberta’s economy. This program is open to students pursuing full-time graduate studies at Athabasca University in one of two eligible research areas (Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies (AMM)).

$12,000 to $31,000 per year for 1-4 years
Requirements
To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must reside within Alberta.
- The applicant must be:
- a domestic student (i.e. a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a protected person within the meaning of subsection 95(2)?of the?Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)), or
- an international student (i.e. means a student who is not a Domestic Student who is authorized to study in Canada at the post-secondary institution under a study permit issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).
- A minimum cumulative program GPA of 3.5 is required, calculated based on the current graduate program graded coursework at AU, or, if a student is newly admitted, the most recent 2 years of study will be used to determine eligibility.
- Full award: Applicant must demonstrate that they have a minimum of 2 full years remaining until program completion (e.g. Sept. 2025- Aug. 2027; Jan. 2026 – Dec. 2027).
- Partial award: Applicant must demonstrate that they have a minimum of 1 full year remaining until program completion (e.g. Sept. 2025 – Aug. 2026; Jan. 2025 – Dec. 2025).
