Bishop's University Graduate Research Scholarships 2025

Bishop’s University proudly introduces its Graduate Research Scholarships program, designed to support high-achieving graduate students pursuing thesis-based degrees. Launched in collaboration with the Bishop’s University Foundation, the Graduate Studies Committee, and the Vice-Principal Academic and Research, this scholarship recognizes academic excellence and research potential by offering financial support of up to $15,000 per year to eligible students enrolled in graduate programs aligned with FRQ and Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships.

The value of the Bishop’s University Graduate Research Scholarship is $15,000 per year, consisting of $12,500 from the university and $2,500 from the student’s research supervisor. It is renewable for a second year based on satisfactory progress.

Requirements

  • Academic Excellence:

    • Minimum 80% cumulative average or first-class standing in your previous degree.

  • Enrollment Status:

    • Must be enrolled full-time in a thesis-based graduate program at Bishop’s University.

  • Program Eligibility:

    • Your program must be eligible for FRQ and/or Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships.

  • Residency:

    • You must be domiciled in Quebec.

  • Funding Limitations:

    • You must not hold a full external scholarship (e.g., NSERC, CIHR, FRQS).

  • Academic Background:

    • Must hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution.

  • Supervisor Requirement:

    • Your faculty supervisor must contribute $2,500/year from their research funds and submit your application.

  • Continuation Criteria:

    • Must apply for external funding if eligible, and continue meeting all conditions throughout the award duration.

  • Special Cases:

    • Parental or medical leave may allow for eligibility extension or scholarship pause.

How To Apply

To apply for the Bishop’s University Graduate Research Scholarship, the student’s thesis supervisor must submit the application on behalf of the student to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies via email at [email protected]. The application must include:

  1. Completed application form

  2. Official transcripts from the diploma used for admission

  3. The student’s CV

? Applications are accepted from June 1 to August 1 each year.
