The British Columbia Graduate Scholarship (BCGS) is a merit-based award offered by the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus. It is designed to support outstanding Canadian and permanent resident students entering full-time, research-based master’s or doctoral programs. This award reflects the university's commitment to attracting and retaining top-tier graduate students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and research potential.
A one-time award of $17,500, applied during the academic year of admission.
Applicants must:
Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Be incoming full-time students in a research-based master's or PhD program at UBC Okanagan
Have an admission GPA equivalent to first-class standing
Be starting their program in the academic year for which they are applying
Selection Criteria:
Academic excellence (admission GPA)
Faculty recommendation based on application review
Applications from Indigenous students are given special consideration; a specific BCGS award is reserved annually for qualified Indigenous applicants

Apply for admission to an eligible graduate program at UBC Okanagan.
Submit all admission materials by the January 31 priority deadline.
No separate application for BCGS is needed — students will be automatically considered.
Faculties nominate students based on submitted admission materials.
