Brock University are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate interested in electrochemical sensors.
The project goals are (1) to prototype sensor electrodes based on aptamers, antibodies or enzymes; (2) analyte-binding mechanisms and bioconjugate formation; and (3) validation of a limit of detection and sensor parameters using various electro-analytical techniques (impedance spectroscopy, voltammetry, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance).
The core part of this project is to design and engineer a sensor platform with dual signal amplification (magnetic-electrochemical) and modify it with suitable nanomaterials to improve the specific binding between the bio-recognition element (receptor) and the target analyte (protein, peptide, bacteria, cell).
Funded PhD Project
Applicants with a strong background in electrochemistry and biosensor research or in using simulation software (COMSOL or other) are welcome!
Please include the following items as a single PDF application file: (1) curriculum vitae, (2) description of past research experience, (3) copy of university transcript/diplomas,(3) copy of documents confirming English proficiency (TOEFL IBT, IELTS or IELTS etc.; please see accepted English language proficiency minimum scores for direct entry into academic programs at Brock University https://brocku.ca/programs/graduate/phd-chem/ and (4) the contact details of two references (please confirm that these references can be contacted).
