The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Overseas Study Supplements (CGS-SEEMS) aims to help high-calibre Canadian graduate students establish international connections and networks by taking advantage of exceptional research opportunities at foreign institutions. By having access to international scientific research and training programs, CGS-SEEMS holders will help increase opportunities for collaboration between Canadian and foreign establishments.
Supplements of up to $6,000 are granted to holders of an active CGS (at the master's or doctoral level) or to eligible holders of a CGS Vanier to help pay the costs of research stays at abroad for a specific period. In total, 250 supplements are offered each year and are distributed among the three organizations (namely the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
The minimum duration of the internship abroad that the BESC-SEEMS will support is two months, and the maximum duration of the support is six months.
Your research stay abroad must begin after the application deadline, but within one year of receipt of the award notice. If you leave Canada before the competition results are announced, the organizations will not be responsible for any expenses incurred if your application is not funded or if it is deemed ineligible.
You must start using your supplement before the end date of your CGS or CGS Vanier, and you cannot do so during a period of interruption of one of these scholarships.
Note: The CGS must be active at the start of the research internship abroad.
