CIMVHR 2024 Dr. Mark Zamorski Award

The Dr. Mark Zamorski Award was established to provide assistance for post-graduate students (Master's and PhD) researching in military, Veteran and family health. A recipient of a Dr. Mark Zamorski Award will undertake their own research to increase knowledge in best practices and current health care needs of serving members, Veterans and/or their families.

Benefits

  • $10,000 awarded to a postgraduate student to enhance their specialization in epidemiological and mental health problems in military personnel, Veterans and /or their families.

Requirements

  • Be registered as a full-time graduate student at a Canadian university;
  • Be conducting research that has potential to improve the mental health of military, Veterans or their families;
  • Exhibit potential for a high-impact research proposal in this area;
  • Demonstrate a high level of quality in proposed research methodology, and excellent analytical and writing skills;
  • Preference will be given to students studying at one of CIMVHR’s member universities.
  • Preference will be given to research projects that focus on equity, diversity and inclusion.

Interview Dates and Process

  • The successful candidate must remain in good academic standing with their university.
  • The successful candidate is expected to attend the Scholarships and Award Announcement at CIMVHR Forum 2024 in Winnipeg, to accept their scholarship from the donor.
  • Upon completion of the award (September 2025), the successful candidate shall complete the online final report, impact statement and a lay summary together with their supervisor, which will be shared with Queen’s University Office of Advancement and the donor. Parts of the final report, impact statement and/or lay summary may be used in the CIMVHR Annual Report and on social media.
  • Upon completion of the award, the successful candidate shall submit an abstract proposal for peer review to present at the CIMVHR Forum. Note: Submissions do not guarantee a presentation at forum as abstracts are double blind peer reviewed to ensure high-quality and credibility.
  • The successful candidate shall acknowledge CIMVHR and the Dr. Mark Zamorski Award as sources of funding in all presentations and publications related to the award research.
  • The successful candidate is encouraged to submit an article to the Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health (JMVFH) upon completion of the award.
