Offered in memory of one of NVIT’s founding members, the F. Gordon Antoine Memorial Entrance Scholarship supports Indigenous students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. This prestigious entrance scholarship is open to three categories of learners, including high school graduates and mature students entering certificate or diploma programs at NVIT’s Merritt campus.

Benefits

$5,000 CAD total, distributed in two installments

Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the three category-specific criteria:

Category 1: Nicola Valley Secondary School Student

  • First-time post-secondary student

  • Indigenous ancestry

  • Graduate of a Nicola Valley Secondary School or equivalent

  • Minimum 80% average

  • Enrolled in an eligible full-time program at NVIT Merritt

Category 2: Other Canadian Secondary School Student

  • First-time post-secondary student

  • Indigenous ancestry

  • Graduate of any secondary school in Canada

  • Minimum 80% average

  • Enrolled in a full-time program at NVIT Merritt

Category 3: Mature Student

  • At least 25 years old

  • Out of school for at least 5 years

  • Indigenous ancestry

  • Enrolled in a full-time certificate or diploma program at NVIT Merritt

Selection Process

Candidates are selected based on:

  • Academic achievement (minimum 80% for secondary school applicants)

  • Community and leadership involvement

  • Clarity of career goals

  • Strength of referral letters

  • Completion of all required documents

Application Documents

All Applicants Must Submit:

  • Completed application form

  • Proof of age (e.g., birth certificate or driver’s license)

  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry (e.g., status card, Métis ID, or official letter)

  • NVIT registration statement

  • Official academic transcripts

  • Personal letter describing leadership and community service

  • Personal letter describing career goals

Additional Requirements by Category:

  • Mature Students: Referral letter from a community member

  • High School Students: Referral letter from a school counsellor, teacher, or support worker
