Government of Nova Scotia Teacher Education Scholarship 2025

The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is pleased to announce the Teacher Education Scholarship, an opportunity for aspiring Black African Nova Scotian educators. Valued at up to $5,000, this scholarship aims to support students accepted into a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program who have a strong connection to Nova Scotia's P-12 public/private school system and its African Nova Scotian communities. With an application deadline of July 25, 2025, this scholarship encourages continued scholastic achievement and fosters the development of diverse teaching talent within the province

Requirements

  • applicant must be a Black African Nova Scotian student
  • applicant must have attended a P-12 Public/Private school in Nova Scotia.
  • applicant must be accepted into a B.Ed program
  • demonstrate continued scholastic achievement (attach an official academic transcript - internet copies are not acceptable)
  • first year students must submit a typed essay (300 words) describing their lived experience as a Black person and their connection to one of the Historical African Nova Scotian Communities
  • Students must submit an application each year to be considered for this scholarship
  • must not possess a professional degree
  • be willing to participate in school to work transition follow-up surveys
  • attach two letters of reference (see application form ), one reference from a university professor and one character reference (non-relative)
