Indigenous Undergraduate Student Entrance Award at Simon Fraser University 2026

This award is based on demonstrated involvement within the Indigenous community through service and/or cultural contribution. 

Recipients would demonstrate this through their commitment to engagement, leadership and social justice within their community, and would be selected based on their ability to demonstrate how their current and future experience(s) are inclusive of the 4Rs (Kirkness & Barnhardt, 1991): Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, and Responsibility.

Requirements

• Applying for the Fall term
• Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) person of Canada
• Have a minimum average of 80% in courses required for primary program, or the minimum IB diploma score required for admission, OR minimum 2.50 CGPA

Application Documents

• Documentation of your Indigenous heritage: photocopy or scan of your Status or Métis card (front & back)
  • For those who do not have membership or documentation that verifies Indigenous ancestry for various reasons (i.e., due to colonization, displacement, non-status, adoption, etc.), we acknowledge that this may be a difficult or upsetting process. We will make every effort to ensure it is done in a culturally safe and trauma-informed way. • One (1) Community Reference Letter

Instructions for Community Referee

In your reference letter, please include:

1. Applicant’s full name and SFU student number (you can ask the student for this information)
2. Referee Information: your full name, email address, phone number, organization name and relationship to the applicant
3. Please describe the following:
   • The applicant’s contribution to their school and/or community;
   • The applicant’s leadership qualities and potential; and
   • Any other additional comments in support of the applicant.

As the applicant is applying for the Indigenous Undergraduate Student Entrance Award, please comment on their cultural contribution to the school and/or Indigenous community (500 words max).
