IVADO Postdoctoral Research Funding Program 2027

IVADO is looking for national and international postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record. These researchers will contribute to the R3AI initiative, Shifting Paradigms for a Robust, Reasoning and Responsible Artificial Intelligence and its Adoption, funded by the Canada First Excellence Research Fund. This high visibility program will draw individuals who will make significant contributions to advancing the R³AI initiative and will offer a unique springboard for their career.

Requirements

• Have completed a PhD less than three years before the funding start date, or expect to complete the PhD by that date.

• Maintain postdoctoral status throughout the two-year funding period.

• Secure an eligible prospective supervisor at one of the five partner universities.

• Propose a research project aligned with the R³AI initiative.

• Dedicate their research time to the programme.

Applicants whose PhDs are older than three years may exceptionally qualify if they provide the required documentation about career interruptions or departmental eligibility. The supervisor cannot be the applicant's PhD thesis supervisor or previous postdoctoral supervisor.

Selection Process

Applications will first be reviewed by IVADO staff to ensure compliance with the program’s eligibility criteria. Eligible applications will then be forwarded to the evaluation committee for assessment and ranking.

The evaluation committee, composed of external researchers with no conflicts of interest with the applicants, will be multidisciplinary and aligned with EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles.

The following criteria will be used to assess the applications:

Candidate profile

• Contributions to research (publications, presentations, scientific and societal impact, etc.), academic excellence, and previous funding awards;
• Depth and breadth of the candidate’s experience (multidisciplinary and professional experience, relevant extracurricular activities, collaborations, contributions to the scientific community and society, etc.).

Project

• Scientific quality of the proposed project; 
• Alignment with the R3AI Initiative.

In accordance with the program’s objectives, IVADO will give priority (among equally qualified candidates) to applications from women and to candidates whose primary doctoral affiliation is outside Quebec. The representation of each of our five partner universities will also be taken into consideration in the final selection of award recipients.

The evaluation committee will take into consideration special circumstances that could have affected candidates’ research, professional career, record of academic or research achievement, or completion of degrees.

The evaluation committee will rank applicants according to the evaluation criteria outlined above. The final ranking will be submitted by the directorate for recommendation to IVADO’s Scientific Committee.
