The Loretta Saunders Community Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 to honour the life and legacy of Loretta Saunders—an Inuk woman, passionate advocate, and Criminology student at Saint Mary’s University. This scholarship supports Indigenous women from Mi’kma’ki, Nunatsiavut, or Atlantic Canada who are pursuing post-secondary education, in recognition of their academic achievement, community service, and financial need.
Financial Support: Scholarship awards range from $500 to $2,000
Recognition: Honours Indigenous women demonstrating academic excellence and community service
Empowerment: Supports post-secondary education for those committed to justice, advocacy, and reconciliation
Legacy Connection: Carries on Loretta Saunders’ vision of uplifting Indigenous voices and ending systemic violence
Must be an Indigenous woman from Mi’kma’ki, Nunatsiavut, or Atlantic Canada
Must be attending a post-secondary institution in Canada
Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education within the past two years
Applicants are assessed based on academic achievement, community involvement/volunteer work, and financial need
