Established in 1989 in memory of Professor de Buda by family, friends and colleagues. To be awarded to students who have achieved high academic standing in an Electrical or Computer Engineering program and who complete a thesis or project in their final year or intend to pursue graduate research in the field of Information Theory, Coding or Digital Communications.

Qualifications
- Applicant must be minimum academic level 4.
- Applicant must be an undergraduate.
- This award is specific to students in an Electrical or Computer Engineering program.
- This award is not second degree eligible.
- Applicant must have read, understood and agreed to the Student Declaration.
- Applicant must be enrolled.
- Applicant must be a current student.
- Applicant must be graduating this academic year.
- Applicant must have a minimum 8.0 cumulative GPA.
- Applicant must have a minimum 60 graded units.
- Applicant must have a minimum of 3 sessional graded units
