Red Deer Polytechnic is proud to announce a new bursary?available to students in select courses participating in practicums this academic year. The Red Deer Polytechnic Accessible Work-integrated Learning (WIL) Bursary program supports students engaged in Mandatory Professional Practice (MPP- work placements required to complete their education) in eligible programs.

The Accessible WIL bursary provides students identifying as belonging to an equity deserving group with $1000 to reduce barriers to their participation in WIL experiences.
Included in this bursary program is an opportunity for students placed 60 km or further away (roundtrip) from their home to receive a $500 travel stipend. This travel bursary is open to all students in eligible programs regardless of identity and is meant to alleviate some of the financial strain of having to travel for placement.
Requirements
Eligibility
- Domestic students participating in placement between January 8th and March 31, 2024
- from Bachelor of Science Nursing (BScN), Health Care Aide (HCA), Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), Practical Nursing (PN), Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant, and Social Work registered in the following courses N250, HCA1005, MLA, OPTA230, OPTA330, PN263, SOWK209, SOWK308
- from Bachelor of Education (BEd) registered in the following courses AFX425, EDUC 1500, EDUC 2500, EDUC 3500/4500
- Who did NOT receive Accessible WIL Bursary funds in 2023.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Refugee, unfortunately International students are not eligible.
Interview Dates and Process
If applying for the Barrier Reduction ($1000)
Must self-identify as belonging to at least one of the following groups:
- LGBTQ2S+, Living in a remote or rural location, Low socioeconomic status, Mature student (30+), Indigenous (including non-status, First Nations, Aboriginal, Metis, or Inuit), Black Canadian, Racialized person/Person of Colour, Newcomer to Canada (within the last 5 years), Student from refugee pathways, Student with disability, Female-identify or non-binary person studying STEM.
If applying for the Travel Stipend ($500)
- Must be placed 60km or more round-trip from your place of residence during your schooling.
Note: Processing times for the Accessible WIL Bursary may be 6-8 weeks.
