Established in 2024 by Rogers Communications to honour the legacy of Ted Rogers. Edward Samuel "Ted" Rogers Jr., OC (May 27, 1933 – December 2, 2008) was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist who served as the president and CEO of Rogers Communications. The Ted Rogers Future Leader Scholarships are offered to students entering Toronto Metropolitan University from high school into any program of study. The awards are open to students who demonstrate financial need from an equity-seeking group.

The winner of Toronto Metropolitan University Ted Rogers Future Leader Scholarships 2025 will be awarded $6,700

Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the qualifications in at least one of the following groups

  • Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person.
  • Applicant must be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time.
  • Applicant must be an entering undergraduate student.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need as determined by Toronto Metropolitan University.
  • Applicant must self-identify as a student from one of the following equity groups: An Indigenous person in Canada (including First Nations [status or non-status], Metis, or Inuit, Black (including those that identify as Afro-Caribbean or African-Canadian), Hispanic/Latin American, East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, North African, a person with a disability, a woman, including cisgender or transgender, 2SLGBTQ+, a person with a disability.
  • Applicant must have applied to a full-time undergraduate program at Toronto Metropolitan University (*Collaborative Nursing applicants admitted into a college site will not be considered).
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled full-time in a Canadian secondary school (minimum of three Ontario grade 12 U/M courses or Canadian provincial equivalent within the regular school year.
  • Applicant must be admitted into the upcoming Fall term.

OR

  • Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person.
  • Applicant must self-identify as a first-generation post-secondary school student. (A student who is the first in their family [not including a sibling] to attend a post-secondary institute such as a college, university, or apprenticeship program either in Canada or outside of Canada).
  • Applicant must be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time.
  • Applicant must be an entering undergraduate student.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need as determined by Toronto Metropolitan University.
  • Applicant must be admitted into the upcoming Fall term.
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled full-time in a Canadian secondary school (minimum of three Ontario grade 12 U/M courses or Canadian provincial equivalent within the regular school year.
  • Applicant must have applied to a full-time undergraduate program at Toronto Metropolitan University (*Collaborative Nursing applicants admitted into a college site will not be considered).
