University of Alberta Rhodes Scholarship 2025

The Rhodes Scholarship supports 103 exceptional students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford, in England. Each year, 11 students from across six regions in Canada are selected, including three students from the prairies region. Since inception, the University of Alberta has been fortunate to have had 76 of its students selected, including eight since 2015.

Benefits

The Rhodes scholarship covers tuition and application fees at Oxford, a personal stipend, and economy-class airfare to the U.K. from Canada at the beginning and end of the scholarship.

Requirements

To be eligible, applicants for the Canada constituency must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship/Residency: Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada. Refugees/asylum seekers currently residing in Canada will also be considered.
  2. Domicile: Be domiciled in Canada.
  3. Age Criteria: Meet one of the following age requirements by October 1st, 2025:
    • Be aged 18-23 (born between October 2nd, 2001, and October 1st, 2007).
    • OR be under the age of 27 (born after October 1st, 1998) AND have completed their first undergraduate degree on or after October 1st, 2024.
  4. Academic Achievement: Will have completed an undergraduate degree (normally a Bachelor's degree) by July 2026 with an academic background and grade that, at a minimum, meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of their chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford. A First Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) or a cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher will increase the chances of successful admission to Oxford.

  • You thrive in academically challenging and rigorous courses.

 

Energy to use one's talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved) 

  • Your passion for developing yourself extends outside the classroom.

  • You have worked hard to develop mastery in your skills, whether competitive, cultural or creative.

  • You can demonstrate sustained and outstanding achievement in your chosen pursuit.

 

? Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship 

  • You seek to live out your values in all that you do.

  • Serving others is a duty you take seriously, whether your community is large or small, local or international.
