The objective of this scholarship is to encourage Black people (Quebecers, Africans, African-Caribbeans, African-Americans) who demonstrate perseverance in adversity, a commitment to the Black community and a financial need for further studies, to consider a career in law.

Benefits

1 scholarship of $2,000 (Amount applied in two equal installments to the payment of tuition fees for the fall 2024 and winter 2025 semesters, as long as the recipient is enrolled full-time in the bachelor's program. Amounts will be paid after the date of abandonment without refund.)

Requirements

Eligibility criteria

  • Admission to the Bachelor of Laws program in the fall 2024 semester;
  • Full-time registration (12 credits) at the time of receiving the scholarship (fall 2024 and winter 2025), or have recognition of this status according to Aide financière aux études;
  • If you are enrolled part-time (6 to 11 credits), individuals recognized as parent students under the terms of Université Laval's Student Parent Policy may be eligible for this competition. To this end, it is your responsibility to provide us with the attestation issued by the Office of the Registrar by sending it to the address: [email protected] . Allow 7 business days for this document to be obtained;
  1. Self-identification with the black community.

This scholarship is created on the initiative of Ms. Anissa Nour, student-athlete at the Faculty of Law of Université Laval, with Ms. Ruth Bansoba, a lawyer who graduated from the University of Ottawa with honors.

Selection criteria:

  • Demonstrating perseverance in the face of adversity (60%)
  • Demonstration of commitment to the community (volunteer activities, organizations targeted, duration, recurrence, potential to continue the involvement, etc.) (30 %)
  • Demonstration that financial support is required for further studies (10%)

The application file must include the following documents:

  • The self-identification form;
  • A cover letter of no more than two pages highlighting perseverance in adversity, obstacles overcome, commitment to the Black community, and financial need. Indicate notable actions or achievements, as well as an average of hours of involvement per week (if possible);
  • A letter of recommendation from a person attesting to the commitment from an organization or group of stakeholders;
  • A certificate or any other document proving involvement and commitment, if possible;
  • An article published with a photo in support of the file, if possible;
  • A summary budget of expenses and income for a typical month;
  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae;
  • A final transcript of the college (or what stands in lieu of it).

Your application must be submitted no later than October 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

Any application that is incomplete or received after the deadline will be rejected.
