University of Laval Charles-De Koninck Doctoral Scholarship 2024

Financially support students preparing a full-time doctoral thesis intended to be defended at the Faculty of Philosophy of Laval University.

The main donor, Monseigneur Alphonse-Marie Parent, wished to honor with these scholarships the memory of the philosopher Charles De Koninck, former professor (1934-1965) and dean (1939-1956; 1964-1965) of this Faculty. The Philosophy in the World Today Chair Fund also contributes to financing scholarships, as does the Laval University Foundation, which dedicates certain specific donations.

Summary

Benefits

  • 1 scholarship of $20,000 (Scholarship paid in 3 equal installments. Renewable for a second year under certain conditions.)
  • 1 scholarship of $10,000 (Scholarship paid in 3 equal installments. Renewable for a second year subject to certain conditions.)

Requirements

  • Have submitted, before March 31 of the current year, a complete admission file for the doctorate in philosophy for the upcoming fall session.

Or

  • Be already enrolled in the doctorate in philosophy at Laval University and have not completed more than four full-time registration sessions.

And

  • Be registered full-time (or be deemed full-time according to Student Financial Assistance ) at Laval University in an eligible program during the year the scholarship is awarded.

Interview Dates and Process

Selection criteria

The excellence of the application is the determining criterion for obtaining these scholarships.

The Selection Committee examines the applications and recommends the most deserving. The examination of files will be done according to the following criteria:

  • All previous achievements attested by the CV and particularly previous academic results, their excellence and their progress. 
  • The candidate's progress based on the supervisor's confidential assessment of previous research or current research as well as a confidential recommendation from another referee with good knowledge of the candidate.

* Part-time student (6 to 11 credits): If you are recognized as a student parent under the terms of the  Policy relating to student parents of Laval University , you could be eligible for this competition. To this end, it is your responsibility to provide us with  the certificate issued by the Office of the Registrar  by uploading it to the appropriate section of the form. Note that a delay of 7 working days is expected to obtain this document."
