The Indigenous Leadership Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships at the University of Ottawa. It is awarded to an Indigenous student who demonstrates academic excellence and outstanding leadership skills This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance and recognition to a newly admitted Indigenous student who has demonstrated excellent academic performance and outstanding leadership skills, including community engagement and volunteerism.

The University of Ottawa Indigenous Leadership Scholarship 2025 recipient will be awarded $26,000 ($6,500 per year) 

The University also provides a one-time award of $1,500 to applicants who are ranked second, third and fourth.

Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or have protected person or refugee status;
  • provide documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance with the requirements of the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for
  • First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure; undergraduate program at a direct-entry faculty; fulfill the admission requirements of the faculty in question (Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences, Telfer School of Management or the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section); have a minimum admission average of 85%; show leadership and engagement in your studies and extracurricular activities.
     

Interview Dates and Process

Note 1: Preference will be given to students who are able to speak an Indigenous language.

  • curriculum vitae;
  • a 500 word statement explaining leadership and engagement in your studies and extracurricular activities; and 4. a completed Indigenous Leadership Scholarship questionnaire.
