University of Regina Button Family EDI Graduate Research Award 2026

One scholarship will continue being presented annually in the fall. The award amount will be based on a payout percentage, as determined by the University, of the rolling three-year average market value of the endowment.

Requirements

The scholarship will be presented to a University of Regina graduate student who meets the following criteria:

•  Enrolled in a graduate program in any faculty;
• Is a fully-qualified graduate student;
• Demonstrated financial need;
• Students must submit an outline (500-750 words) of their research project demonstrating a focus in social justice initiatives such as social responsibility, anti-racism, inclusion (e.g., 2SLGBTQ+, disability, immigrants, and gender) or reconciliation;
•  Applications must be accompanied by budget documentation regarding the cost of research including but not limited to materials, including specialized computer software needed for the research, costs associated with surveys or data purchase, payment for research assistants, travel or conference registration costs associated with presentation of the research or field work, or field/archival research related to their thesis or major studies. Upon completion of their thesis or major studies, the recipients must submit a report of their expenses to the Manager of Graduate Scholarships & Awards at [email protected]. Expenses must be completed within one year following the date of application.
• Preference given to current/past members of the Canadian military and current/past first responders, or their immediate family members.

Notes:
  If the budget request is less than the amount allotted for the research, unused amounts will be returned to the award fund.
  In the event of similar applicants, preference will be given with the following priority order:
1. Students who are putting forward the greatest non-conference or research presentation related expenses.
2. Students whose research demonstrates community social justice initiatives such as social responsibility, anti-racism, inclusion (e.g., 2SLGBTQ+, disability, immigrants, and gender) or reconciliation.
3. Students who demonstrate financial need.
4. Preference given to current/past members of the Canadian military and curre.
