University of Saskatchewan Graduate Thesis & Dissertation Awards 2025

To recognize excellence and original quality in graduate student research. To be awarded based on the recognition of outstanding academic performance in the graduate program. Components of the graduate program to be considered by the selection committee includes the thesis, coursework, publications and presentations related to their field of research and awards received. The report of the external examiner is particularly important.

Aim and Benefits of University of Saskatchewan Graduate Thesis & Dissertation Awards

$500 (offered by the College of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies and the Office of the Vice-President Academic). Subject to change.


Requirements for University of Saskatchewan Graduate Thesis & Dissertation Awards Qualification

  • Open to all students who will be convocating in a Master's or Ph.D. at Spring Convocation or who graduated the preceding Fall. One award will be made for each of the five disciplines: Humanities and Fine Arts, Social Sciences A, Social Sciences B, Life Sciences, Physical and Engineering Sciences.
  • Nominations are limited to one per program.

The call for applications for this award will open annually in the Winter term.2025 deadline - Monday, April 7, 2025 at 4:30pm CST

How to Apply

Interested and qualified? Go to University of Saskatchewan on grad.usask.ca to apply

Departments wishing to nominate a student must submit the following documents:

  • A letter from the Department Head* giving a detailed rationale for the nomination, including under which category the thesis should be considered;
  • A letter from one additional faculty member*;
  • A letter from the External Examiner that covers the topics found in the  Nomination Letter Guidelines;
  • A non-technical abstract or summary prepared by the student (maximum 1 page) describing the research and its significance. The abstract/summary should be written for a general academic audience of non-specialists;
  • The abstract and table of contents for the nominated thesis;
  • An up-to-date CV or resume from the student nominee, including the student's contact information.

These letters should include information regarding the significance of the thesis, the contribution of the thesis to the University of Saskatchewan program, and the impact of the thesis on the knowledge base of the discipline.
