University of Toronto 2024 Undergraduate Award for Scholarly Achievement in the area of Gender Based Violence 2024

Each December 6th, the University of Toronto community marks the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women with events across the institution. In 2016, the University established the Graduate and Undergraduate Award for Scholarly Achievement to recognize students who have made distinctive contributions in the area of gender-based violence research and prevention.This undergraduate Award was established by the University of Toronto in memory of the 14 women who died tragically at the Ecole Polytechnique on December 6, 1989. This undergraduate Award is given to an undergraduate student who shows a demonstrated interest and commitment to academic work and/or community involvement in the area of violence against women and girls and/or against trans and gender non-binary people. Interest and commitment may be demonstrated through academic studies, research, on- or off-campus projects related to violence against women, or other types of activities.

One undergraduate award is available annually in the amount of $1,500 

Requirements

  • Domestic or international undergraduate student 
  • The Award is open to undergraduate students, full or part-time, who have completed a minimum of 10 credits toward their degree program. 
  • Academic merit (Candidates are required to have maintained a cumulative average of at least a ‘B’

Application Documents

Applicants must submit the following: 

  • Statement of 350 words describing studies/work in the area of violence against women and girls and/or against trans and gender non-binary people. 
  • A copy of your transcript.  
  • An ACORN print-out is sufficient for the U of T transcript. If you studied at any other institution, please provide a copy of your previous institution’s official transcript.  
  • Your resume/CV 
  • One letter of support from an individual who is familiar with your contributions, projects or research in the area of violence against women. The letter may be from a U of T faculty or staff member, supervisor/employer, or other appropriate individual.
