The John H. Moss Scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduate students in Arts and Science at the University of Toronto (St. George, Mississauga and Scarborough campuses), who are intending to pursue a second degree or studies at the graduate level. The award recognizes academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement.

Benefits

One scholarship of up to $16,650 (The scholarship has a base value of $11,100, with an additional amount of up to $5,550, based on program fees.) is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic and extracurricular leadership. Candidates who are interviewed as Moss finalists, but not selected as the Moss Scholar, will be designated UTAA Scholars and will receive an honorarium and certificate in recognition of their achievements.

Requirements

 Recipient must:

  • be an undergraduate student in Arts and Science at the University of Toronto (St. George, Mississauga or Scarborough campus);
  • have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 (B+);
  • demonstrate outstanding academic and extra-curricular leadership;
  • be in his or her graduating year, and intending to pursue a second degree or studies at the graduate level.

Application Procedure A complete application package must include the following:

  • Completed application form
  • Curriculum vitae outlining academic achievements, scholarships and awards received, work experience, and extracurricular involvement. Extracurricular experience should be clearly separated into two categories: inside and outside the University
  • Statement of 300-800 words on your future academic and career goals
  • Supporting letter of recommendation from each of the three (3) people listed below. Letters may besent under separate cover and should be marked "CONFIDENTIAL". Only letters from the following individuals will be considered by the Moss Scholarship Committee:
    • Member of the teaching staff of the department(s) in which you are registered
    • Member of the senior staff or teaching faculty of the college at which you are registered,
    • such as the Dean or Principal. (NOTE: this recommendation must be endorsed by the head of your college. The endorsement may take the form of a co-signature on the above letter, or it may be a separate letter.)
    • Student Services representative at a senior administrative level in the University, such as a Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, Dean of Men or Women at a college, Director of Student Services, Director of Career Centre, etc.
