The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic excellence and financial need and a demonstrated interest in graduate studies. Recipients must be an Ontario resident. The selection will be made by Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs on a university-wide rotating basis.

Aim and Benefits of University of Waterloo James and Elise Devitt Graduate Scholarship
Two scholarships, valued at up to $5,000 each, will be awarded annually to full-time University of Waterloo graduate students in any University of Waterloo graduate program. The fund is made possible by a donation from Elise Devitt, UWaterloo retired staff member, in memory of her husband, T. James Devitt.
Requirements for University of Waterloo James and Elise Devitt Graduate Scholarship Qualification
- Must be a full-time graduate student in any program.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident, as well as an Ontario resident (must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to beginning their post - secondary education).
- Must apply to OSAP for the term in which the award is due and provide a printout (screenshot) of their OSAP Funding Summary. Note: If a student has been restricted from applying to OSAP then they must instead provide proof that they are restricted.
- Must have demonstrated financial need. From their budget, within the Graduate Student Award application, their “Current term expenses” must exceed their “Current term income”. All amounts entered will be reviewed and only standard expenses will be allowed.
- Must demonstrate scholastic excellence and an interest in graduate studies in the personal letter portion of the application.
