The Calgary Institute for the Humanities was established at the University of Calgary in 1976 to foster advanced study and research in a broad range of subject areas. It supports work in the traditional disciplines such as languages and literature, philosophy and history, as well as in philosophical and historical aspects of the social sciences, fine arts, sciences, and professional studies. The “humanities” is thus not conceived as a specific group of academic disciplines, but as forms of study that explore human reality and experience guided by literature, history, and philosophical analysis and reflection.
