The UBC Awards for Indigenous Students include scholarships and bursaries. When a student applies for these awards, they are considered for both merit and need-based awards. Scholarships are awards that recognize academic, community, or athletic achievement. Bursaries are based on financial need. Student awards based solely on financial need are not included on your official transcript.
This fund was established by the family and friends of the late Dr. G. Harry Cannon who was a member of the Faculty of Education and who devoted much of his life to Development Education and latterly, the education of Indigenous students. Bursaries totalling $1,000 (normally, awards will not be less than $250 each) are awarded to Indigenous students (Status or Non-status) who have completed at least one undergraduate year and are enrolled in the Faculty of Education. Recipients must have a good academic standing and need financial assistance.
